Dave Sandford
Dave Sandford is a professional photographer based in London, Ontario, Canada. For much of his twenty-eight-year career he has primarily covered professional sports. During that time Dave has worked extensively with the NHL, NBA and Hockey Hall of Fame to name a few. In the process, covering 23 Stanley Cup Championships, 9 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships, 2 Winter Olympic Games, The Super Bowl, NBA and MLB playoffs, as well as numerous All-Star Games across the professional ranks.
What some may not know about Dave, is that his passion for photography was born from a love of nature and wildlife. Sandford’s earliest attempts at photography, as a child and into his teen years, were of birds, small critters, deer and beautiful Canadian landscapes captured in a ravine just down the road from his childhood home in the north end of London. Many thousands of hours have also gone into photography on Buckhorn Lake in the Kawartha's where Dave has spent most his summer days.
Since becoming a professional shooter Dave has been taking his talents far beyond Canada’s borders, from the frozen barren lands of the Arctic regions to the warm waters of the South Pacific capturing diverse wildlife such as bears, whales and sharks to name a few.
What Dave is most widely known for is his wave imagery on Lake Erie. Over the course of the past 6 years, Dave’s nature photography has taken him into the frigid waters of Lake Erie where he tackled the challenge of “the Gales of November” in his ongoing Liquid Mountains project.
Dave continues to pursue and expand on his wildlife photography while helping to raise awareness for the well-being of animals and the wild spaces they need to thrive in. Over the years Sandford has aligned with numerous conservation efforts as well as organizations using his voice and powerful imagery to bring light to these environmentally sensitive issues at hand.
