J.E.H. MacDonald (1873-1932)

A poet and artist, MacDonald’s expressive painting style influenced artists such as Tom Thomson and the nascent talents of other Group of 7 members.  MacDonald’s most productive phase hinged on frequent excursions to Algoma District, North of Lake Superior in Ontario. His passing in late 1932 marks the formal end of the Group of 7 period in Canadian art.
