Ohotaq Mikkigak: Inuit Prints from Cape Dorset Boxed Notecard Assortment

Regular price $23.00

On Baffin Island in the Canadian territory of Nunavut, 1,200 miles north of Toronto, the artists of Cape Dorset have been making limited-edition original prints since 1959. Diverse media are available to the printmakers—etching and aquatint, woodcut, copper engraving—but the Kinngait Studios’ mainstays are stonecut, stencil, and lithography. Ohotaq Mikkigak (1936–2014) began drawing in the early years of the studios’ operation; he had a solo exhibition of prints and drawings in 2010. Mikkigak’s images presented as the notecards in this set exemplify the renowned Inuit style from the oldest continually operating print studios in Canada.

Contains 5 each of the following images:
Joyful Loon, 2014
Kunik (Kiss), 2010
Imaginary Owl, 2005
Sprightly Bird, 2013
